Anthropic Brings Claude Across Excel, Word and Office

At a closed-door event in New York, Anthropic’s most important announcement was not a new model. It was a workflow claim: Claude can now move across Excel, PowerPoint, Word and Outlook without losing context.

In practical terms, a banker could build a valuation model in Excel, move into PowerPoint to draft a pitchbook, and still have the same agent remember the discount rate, comparable companies and adjusted assumptions. When the user shifts to Outlook, Claude can pull the model’s conclusions into a client email. One agent spans four Office applications.

This is more than a repeat of Microsoft Copilot’s positioning. Microsoft’s own Copilot has not yet made cross-application context feel this complete. Anthropic is using Microsoft’s own productivity suite to offer an agent experience that it says is smoother than Microsoft’s native product.

Ten finance agents are already running at JPMorgan

Alongside the Office integration, Anthropic introduced ten prebuilt finance agents covering investment-banking pitchbooks and earnings analysis, credit memos, underwriting and KYC processes, month-end close, audit work and insurance claims.

JPMorgan, Goldman Sachs, Citi, AIG and Visa are already running the tools in production. Jamie Dimon said at the event that he used Claude Code to build a financial dashboard in about 20 minutes and that the result was close to what he had in mind.

AIG CEO Peter Zafino offered a more concrete figure: Claude reached 88% accuracy against human experts in insurance claims. That was presented not as a demo metric, but as an internal benchmark.

Claude Opus 4.7’s finance score

The model behind the push is Claude Opus 4.7, released last month. On Vals AI’s Finance Agent benchmark it scored 64.4%, the highest reported result so far, and it also ranked first on GDPval-AA, a benchmark for economically valuable knowledge work.

Goldman Sachs CIO Marco Argenti framed the shift sharply: this is the first time customers are buying intelligence itself, rather than infrastructure.

That line sounds like marketing, but it points to a real change in Wall Street procurement. Banks used to buy Bloomberg terminals, S&P data and Refinitiv subscriptions as information sources. Now they are paying Anthropic for an agent that can do part of the work. The layer in between, where analysts build Excel models, decks and memos, is being compressed.

Annualized growth at 80x

Anthropic CFO Krishna Rao said at the event that the company’s quarterly annualized growth had reached 80x, far above its 10x target at the start of the year.

That helps explain the $1.5 billion joint venture Anthropic is forming with Blackstone, Hellman & Friedman, Goldman Sachs, Apollo, General Atlantic, Leonard Green, GIC and Sequoia. The new “AI native” enterprise-services company is aimed at mid-sized institutions that historically could not afford Accenture- or Deloitte-scale transformation projects.

Rao said enterprise demand for Claude has exceeded any single delivery model. In plain terms, Anthropic’s own sales, customer-success and solutions teams are not enough, so it is bringing in private equity and outside engineers.

Moody’s is now inside Claude

The partner list also expanded to include Verisk, Third Bridge, Fiscal AI, Dun & Bradstreet, Experian, GLG, Guidepoint and IBISWorld.

The most important addition is Moody’s, which has turned its platform into a native Claude app. Credit ratings and risk data on 600 million companies can be called directly inside Claude, without switching tools.

Earlier partners such as LSEG, S&P Capital IQ, Morningstar and PitchBook remain in place. In effect, Anthropic has connected many of the data sources Wall Street analysts use every day.

Why this matters

Anthropic chief economist Peter McCrory said AI is already performing at least 25% of tasks in about half of US jobs, up from roughly one-third a year ago. He predicted AI could add 1.8 percentage points to annual US labor productivity, close to the productivity acceleration seen during the late-1990s internet wave.

If that forecast proves right, financial services will be among the first industries reshaped because its core inputs are data, templates and writing.

Anthropic also timed the event one week before Microsoft Build. Coming after OpenAI broke its exclusive arrangement with Microsoft last month, the signal is clear: major AI labs want deeper access to the Office ecosystem, and the Microsoft 365 Copilot business is turning into a three-way fight.
