Anthropic brings 10 finance agents to Wall Street

Anthropic has made a direct play for financial services.

The company introduced 10 ready-to-use Claude agent templates, paired with deeper Microsoft 365 integrations, and named Citadel, BNY Mellon, Carlyle and Mizuho among customers already using Claude in production. This is not a vague prospect list in a launch release.

In plain terms, Anthropic wants analysts to spend less time building decks, reconciling files and clearing KYC queues.

What the 10 templates cover

The templates fall into two broad groups.

For research and client coverage:

  • Pitch builder
  • Meeting preparer
  • Earnings reviewer
  • Model builder
  • Market researcher

For finance and operations:

  • Valuation reviewer
  • General ledger reconciler
  • Month-end closer
  • Statement auditor
  • KYC screener

Each template is presented as a reference architecture that combines three pieces: Skills for instructions and domain knowledge, Connectors for governed data access, and Subagents that handle narrower Claude tasks.

Companies can deploy them in three ways: as plugins for Claude Cowork and Claude Code, as a cookbook for Claude Managed Agents, or through direct invocation. Managed Agents matters because it supports long-running sessions, tool-level permissions, hosted credential vaults and full audit logs.

Named customers are the real signal

The sharpest part of the launch is that Anthropic attached named executives to production use cases.

  • Atte Lahtiranta, head of core engineering at Citadel: Claude for Excel helps analysts build models, separate signals and run stress tests inside familiar tools.
  • FIS CEO Stephanie Ferris: anti-money-laundering investigations have been compressed from days to minutes.
  • BNY Mellon CIO Leigh-Ann Russell: digital employees can now process whole cases end to end.
  • Walleye Capital CEO Will England: a 400-person team is using Claude Code across the organization.
  • Carlyle chief digital officer Matt Anderson: Claude is creating value across investment, operations and portfolio management.

The Walleye example stands out. A 400-person hedge fund saying everyone uses Claude Code is the kind of penetration figure more often associated with software companies than Wall Street firms.

Excel is the center of gravity

For finance workers, Excel remains the operating surface. Anthropic's approach goes beyond a light assistant add-in.

  • It can build financial models automatically from SEC filings and data sources.
  • It can audit formulas across linked workbooks.
  • It can run sensitivity analysis.

The more important feature is cross-app context. A model built in Excel can carry into PowerPoint when the analyst prepares a presentation, without having to explain the work again. Outlook is still on the way, but once added, the workflow becomes a full loop: research a client before a meeting, prepare materials, then write the follow-up email.

Connectors and the model underneath

Tools without data are not enough. Anthropic also announced eight new connectors: Dun & Bradstreet, Fiscal AI, Financial Modeling Prep, Guidepoint, IBISWorld, SS&C IntraLinks, Third Bridge and Verisk.

Moody's added another major piece with an MCP app covering credit ratings and data for more than 600 million entities.

The underlying model is Claude Opus 4.7. On Vals AI's Finance Agent benchmark, it scored 64.37%, which Anthropic positions as the current industry lead.

Who Anthropic is really fighting

The obvious rival is OpenAI. OpenAI had just signed a large deal with Novo Nordisk and was discussing work with several hedge funds tied to Goldman Sachs. Anthropic answered with a customer list that already has names attached.

The more important change is structural. By packaging templates, connectors and enterprise permission controls together, Anthropic is no longer just selling a model API. It is selling a finance workflow that can enter compliance review directly.

The next question is pricing. If Claude Cowork and Managed Agents use a hybrid of seat fees and usage fees, they could become a direct threat to traditional tools such as Bloomberg Terminal, which costs about $2,400 for a four-day work week.

This fight is still at the opening bell.
