RayNeo Innovation Technology launched its iO series AI glasses on August 21, weighing just 34 grams. The company says the glasses last two days on a charge, with an official retail price of 2,499 yuan and a launch price starting at 1,996 yuan. They went on sale the same day on JD.com, Tmall, Douyin, and at offline optical retailers.
One line in the spec sheet stands out more for what's missing than what's there: there's no camera. Over the past two years, most display-equipped AI glasses have piled on camera-driven features to make the device "see" the world. RayNeo went the opposite direction entirely.
Where the weight savings came from
The frame uses AZ91D magnesium-aluminum alloy, the temples are made of beta-titanium, and a counterweight at the back balances the front-heavy load — none of that is new in eyewear, but hitting 34 grams still required the display module to cooperate.
RayNeo built its in-house optical waveguide, which it calls the "Blue Lake waveguide," into a conventional browline frame using a three-layer optical structure. The company's official figures put the effective display size at 33 inches, brightness reaching the eye at 1,800 nits, light transmittance at 93% in the display area and above 98% elsewhere. That transmittance number is what determines whether the lenses look like ordinary glasses — 93% is close to how a normal lens looks day to day, which is what let RayNeo keep a standard frame shape.
Dropping the camera saved more than just weight. The module, wiring, indicator light, and privacy-notice logic that come with a camera all disappear too, which pulls down power consumption — that's what makes the two-day battery life possible. The flip side is that anything relying on visual input — reading a street sign, scanning a menu, snapping a photo to ask a question about it — is off the table for this device.
What "proactive AI" actually means here
RayNeo's headline feature is what it calls all-day proactive AI, which breaks down into two things.
The first is all-day smart memory, which automatically generates daily summaries covering important conversations, to-dos, and personal status. The second is a real-time prompt mode: without any spoken command, the device recognizes relevant questions coming up in an ongoing conversation and pushes answers straight onto the lens display. On top of that are features already proven out by similar products — an AI teleprompter, translation, and meeting transcription.
How well this proactive-push approach works in practice comes down to the false-trigger rate. Too sensitive, and text keeps popping up in front of your eyes; too conservative, and it's effectively back to wake-word interaction. RayNeo didn't give a quantified figure for this at the launch event, so whether the feature actually holds up will have to wait for retail units.
All the models live off-device
The iO ships with DeepSeek V4 Pro and Qwen 3.7 Max on board at launch, with plans to add Moonshot AI's Kimi K3 and RayNeo's own in-house large model later. None of the heavy-lifting models run locally, which means the interaction chain is inherently dependent on a network connection — a trade-off that goes hand in hand with hitting 34 grams.
Put in context of pricing, 2,499 yuan works out to roughly $350. Halliday's smart glasses are priced at $599, Snap's AR glasses at $2,195, and Moonix — another lightweight-focused device — gets down to 14.9 grams but without a full AI interaction suite. Chinese manufacturers in this round are converging on a similar playbook: push weight and price below the threshold for everyday wear first, and accept the trade-off of no camera and cloud-based models on the feature side.
RayNeo's tagline for the iO is "Human Augmented AI Glasses." Strip away the marketing language, and what it actually delivers is a heads-up information panel you wear around plus an assistant that chimes in on its own. Whether that combination is something people actually keep wearing day to day is a harder question to answer than any spec sheet.
