AI glasses usually get trapped between two bad options: add enough sensors and display hardware to feel like a face-mounted computer, or stay light enough to wear and become little more than an audio recorder.
Moonix is choosing the narrower path first. Its standard AI glasses went on sale on July 17 at a starting price of RMB 2,299. The lightest beta-titanium version weighs 14.9 grams. Instead of chasing every feature at once, the product is built around recording and personal memory.
"Wearability is the 1, and features are the zeros behind it. Without the 1, adding more zeros still gives you zero."
The first test is the nose bridge
The numbers are specific: 14.9 grams, a 4mm-thin temple at its narrowest point, up to 16 hours of mixed use, including six hours of active recording and ten hours of intelligent recording. At launch, Moonix offers four frame materials and more than 39 frame styles.
That weight matters because many smart glasses sit above 40 grams. Snap's newer Specs AR glasses are a different, display-heavy product, but they show the trade-off clearly: once a device adds display, cameras, compute and battery, the weight climbs fast.
A memory device, not a phone replacement
The standard model focuses on ambient capture. It can collect context automatically under user-controlled rules, or record continuously when the wearer presses a button. AI then organizes the material into notes, reminders and a personal knowledge base.
Moonix says user data will not be used to train AI models, raw data stays on the phone, cloud processing will not retain the original files after analysis, and parts of the data-processing stack will be opened for outside review. Those claims still need scale and scrutiny. A memory device wins only if users trust where capture begins and ends.
Sales channels are the real signal
Moonix is not selling only through gadget channels. It is using its own mini program, JD.com, 100 Doctor Glasses stores and three Wujie Optical stores. That matters: mass-market AI glasses have to be fitted, tried on and adjusted like glasses before users care about the AI layer.
The company has completed angel financing in the tens of millions of yuan and opened a new round. Securities Times reported that 70% of financing proceeds will go into product R&D, including the AI system architecture, hardware process and recording capabilities.
The next checks are practical: try-on conversion, return rates, active recording days, long-term consent for memory capture, and whether the camera-equipped Pro version can keep weight and privacy under control when it arrives in August.
