TSMC s advanced capacity is reportedly booked deep into 2028, and customers that cannot wait are looking at Samsung. Nikkei Asia says Samsung has seen a surge of foundry inquiries from BYD, Google, AMD and Tesla.
Why it matters
The talks cover next-generation autonomous-driving chips, Google Axion processors and TPUs, future AMD CPUs and other advanced capacity. Google may even split a future AI chip across TSMC and Samsung rather than relying on one supplier.
The story is less that Samsung suddenly overtook TSMC than that AI demand has overflowed the leader s fabs. For Samsung, the opening is real, but it still has to prove yield and execution at the high end.
