Nvidia is no longer just a GPU company—everyone knows that. But the Agent Toolkit unveiled at GTC 2026 made this shift concrete: Adobe, Salesforce, SAP, Atlassian, and 13 other enterprise software giants stood alongside Jensen Huang, announcing they would build their next-generation AI agent products on Nvidia's platform.
"Claude Code and OpenClaw ignited the inflection point for agents—AI has truly expanded from generation and reasoning to action for the first time," Huang said directly during the keynote. In the agent era, Nvidia's approach differs from the large language model era; it aims to extend from the hardware layer all the way up to the software platform layer.
What Exactly Is the Agent Toolkit?
This is an open-source software framework that allows enterprises to build and deploy autonomous AI agents on Nvidia's infrastructure. Its core components include:
- NVIDIA OpenShell — An open-source agent runtime responsible for policy execution, security guardrails, and network isolation to prevent agent overreach.
- NVIDIA Nemotron — Nvidia's own family of open-source reasoning models, specifically optimized for agent tasks.
- NVIDIA AI-Q — A unified blueprint and interface for the agent's "perceive-reason-act" cycle.
- NVIDIA cuOpt — A specialized tool library for optimization tasks such as scheduling and path planning.
- NeMo Data Designer — A tool to help enterprises customize the data needed for their specific agents.
The core logic of this suite is a hybrid architecture: using frontier large models (such as Claude, GPT-5) for top-level orchestration, while Nvidia's open-source Nemotron handles high-frequency daily queries. According to Nvidia, this can reduce overall inference costs by more than 50%. Additionally, the Agent Toolkit currently ranks first in agent search accuracy on the DeepResearch Bench.
How the 17 Giants Are Using It
The partners onboarded this time cover nearly every major enterprise software category:
Salesforce: Agentforce + Nvidia's Nemotron model stack allows employees to converse directly with agents in Slack. Agents then execute business workflows with proper permissions, with data spanning both on-premises and cloud environments. SAP: Through Joule Studio integrated with NeMo, enterprises can customize dedicated business agents on the SAP Business Technology Platform. Adobe: Creative AI pipelines are connected to Nvidia's framework, covering image, video, 3D, and document intelligence.
Other participants include: Atlassian, Cisco, CrowdStrike, ServiceNow, Siemens, Red Hat, Box, Cohesity, Cadence, Synopsys, Dassault Systèmes, IQVIA, and Amdocs.
This partnership touches nearly every software tool used daily by Fortune 500 companies.
Nvidia's Strategic Play
The logic is clear: Nvidia has already secured the GPU hardware layer; now it aims to lock down the software platform layer as well.
The Agent Toolkit is open-source, but it runs optimally on Nvidia's optimized infrastructure, deeply tied to chips like the H200 and B300 and its networking stack. Open source is a distribution strategy, but ecosystem lock-in is the goal.
"The agent era will be bigger than the large model era," Huang said—implying that the business of building an AI platform will ultimately be larger than the business of selling GPUs.
On the application layer of large models, OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google are competing. Nvidia's entry point is the more foundational agent development infrastructure: OpenShell, this runtime, can be understood as the "operating system" for AI agents. It doesn't compete head-on with large models; instead, it makes them all run on its platform.
An analogy: In the smartphone era, the most profitable company wasn't the one selling phones, but the one selling the operating system. In the agent era, Nvidia wants to play the role of the OS maker.
Now that 17 enterprise software giants have committed to building products on top of it, this platform's moat is beginning to form.
