Radical Numerics raises $50M to model biology across layers

Radical Numerics, founded by researchers behind Evo and Evo 2, raised a $50 million seed round led by Emergence Capital. The team previously built models capable of generating DNA sequences at large scale, including work later used to design a harmless AI-generated virus.

Why it matters

The new company wants to move beyond single biological modalities. Its goal is general biological intelligence that reasons across DNA, RNA and proteins, with early work aimed at cancer diagnostics and pathogen detection.

The dual-use risk is central to the story. Radical Numerics has brought in biosecurity adviser Andrew Weber and says future models will not automatically be open-sourced like Evo.
