On October 12, xAI launched The X Subscription, which merges the Grok chat assistant, Grok Bot (an agent that can carry out tasks for users), the Cursor coding agent and the social platform X's Premium membership into a single plan. New customers can sign up right away, and the company says it will open to all users worldwide within the next few days. The announcement was made from an account operating under the SpaceX AI name, and the post also claims the plan's usage limits exceed those of comparable subscriptions from other model companies. The basis of that comparison has not been published.
The official page carries just one slogan: "Grok, Grok Bot, Cursor, and X Premium, all on one plan."
The five tiers
| Tier | Monthly price | What's included | Usage |
|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | Daily access to Grok, starter Cursor allowance, standard X | Limited |
| Plus | $8 | Higher Grok and Cursor usage, verification badge, creator tools, fewer ads | Baseline |
| Premium | $30 | SuperGrok + Cursor Pro + X Premium+ | 4x Plus |
| Super | $100 | Same as above | 15x Plus |
| Ultra | $200 | Same as above | 50x Plus |
A few usage rules are tucked into the fine print. On paid tiers, the Grok model allowance is shared between Grok and Cursor: coding in Cursor eats into your chat allowance, and vice versa. Using third-party models inside Cursor requires Premium or above, and those are billed separately at API list prices, drawn down from prepaid credits. Limits refresh once a week.
Beyond the multipliers, the page gives no absolute figures. It does not say how many Grok conversations or Cursor agent tasks per week the "baseline" of the $8 tier equates to, and the claim that usage exceeds other model companies' subscriptions comes with no token counts or comparison table, so for now it rests on xAI's word alone. Users will have to wait until the billing page goes live and people post their actual consumption before any real comparison is possible.
The Premium, Super and Ultra tiers can also be bought per seat for teams at the same per-seat price as the individual plans, with SSO, admin controls, consolidated billing, usage analytics and SOC 2 compliance included. Enterprise customers can manage Grok and Cursor from a single console.
What happens to existing subscribers
People already paying for SuperGrok, Cursor or X Premium will not be migrated automatically and can keep using their current plans at their current prices. Those who want to switch can do so in billing settings; the old plan is refunded for the remaining days, and a limited-time switching discount is offered, with the size of the discount shown on the billing page. xAI says there is currently no timetable for forced migration and that it will give advance notice if that changes.
Doing the math
Set against the "previously $90 combined" figure the company gives, the $30 tier costs a third as much for the same three products. For people who use only one of them, the picture is different. A Cursor user who only writes code used to buy Pro alone; now the extra money buys Grok and an X membership, while the Grok allowance shares a pool with Cursor, so how much additional coding capacity they actually get depends on how xAI converts between the two. The page does not state that ratio.
The upper tiers can be set beside competitors. Anthropic's Claude Max comes in $100 and $200 tiers, and xAI's Super and Ultra sell at the same prices, bundling a social-platform membership with a coding agent. The usage multipliers are expressed relative to xAI's own $8 tier, 15x and 50x, so they cannot be converted directly into tokens for comparison with anyone else.
SpaceX bought Cursor by exercising a $60 billion option, as previously reported on this site. After the acquisition, this is the first time Cursor's pricing has been tied to xAI's own products on a single bill. For developers in mainland China, Cursor's standalone subscriptions remain available and the bundle is simply one more option; X itself cannot be accessed directly from mainland China, so that part of the package is of limited use to most users there.
