Governor Gavin Newsom said AI should help public workers move faster rather than replace them. The DMV, health services, emergency management and state technology teams are already using Claude for queues, benefits work, security scans and coding.
Anthropic also launched a $15 million cyber defense program for state, local, tribal and territorial governments, offering Claude credits rather than cash. California and Texas are the first participants.
