SoftBank is making its first concrete security product with OpenAI a vulnerability-patching service for Japan. The new Patching as a Service offering uses OpenAI models to find weaknesses, rank remediation work and advise companies on how to close gaps.
A narrow first market
The service will be sold by SB OAI Japan, the joint venture SoftBank and OpenAI set up for the Japanese market. SoftBank says it first ran the system across its own estate, then packaged that experience for about 3,000 large companies tied to critical infrastructure, including power, transport and airports.
Masayoshi Son framed AI-driven attacks as a national crisis and argued defenders need the same class of technology. The bet is simple: if attackers are using AI to scale vulnerability hunting, Japanese infrastructure operators will need AI on the defensive side too.
