Armada raises $230M for modular AI data centers

Armada raised a $230 million Series B at a $2 billion valuation, with BlackRock joining Overmatch and 8090 Industries as lead investors.

The customer list explains the round: the U.S. Navy, the Department of Energy, Aker BP and remote data-center operators all need AI compute outside normal cloud regions.

Its modular Galleon systems package power, cooling and compute into deployable data-center blocks, so inference can run near ships, oil platforms, mines and grid assets.

The deal points to a broader shift in AI infrastructure. Not every workload can wait for a hyperscale region; some customers need rugged compute placed where the work happens.
