Federal Court Rules AI Chat Logs Not Protected by Attorney-Client Privilege
A New York federal judge ruled that conversations with AI chatbots like Claude and ChatGPT are not protected by attorney-client privilege or work-product doctrine, while a Michigan court reached the opposite conclusion on the same day. Over a dozen top U.S. law firms have since warned clients that AI chats could be subpoenaed as evidence.
