A product video’s path from idea to product page runs through several steps: generate it, upscale it, crop it to vertical and square, then compress it under the platform’s size limit. Every step means waiting, and every step means paying.
PixPix has merged two of those steps into one: the platform has now integrated Black Forest Labs’ FLUX Upscale, so once a product video is generated it goes straight into 4K reconstruction — a single task submission returns a finished 4K clip.
Why “upscaling” exists as a separate step in the first place
To keep compute costs down, most video models train and run inference at lower resolutions, so their raw output tops out at 720p or 1080p. Getting to 4K means bolting on a separate super-resolution model. The two-step pipeline is already the industry default.
FLUX Upscale is the most closely watched link in that chain right now. Black Forest Labs shipped it as a standalone tool in August, and it doesn’t take the interpolation route — the model looks at the low-resolution input and repaints every frame. The company specifically calls out fixes for blurry faces, water surfaces, and the grid-like artifacts that turn up in high-frequency textures such as grass — precisely the details that generation stages sacrifice first to save compute. It supports 1.5x, 2x and 3x scaling, taking an HD source up to roughly 1080p, 2K and 4K respectively.
Using the capability on its own is not exactly light work. Official pricing runs per megapixel-second: $0.07 for Precise mode, $0.10 for Creative mode. A single 4K frame is roughly 8.29 million pixels, so upscaling a ten-second clip works out to a rough six to eight dollars — and the cost climbs linearly with duration, so a one-minute clip costs six times as much as a ten-second one. Sellers also face extra friction: wiring up the API themselves, managing the queue, and feeding the upscaled footage back into their editing pipeline. PixPix has folded that step into its workbench. What sellers see is one task and one finished file, while model scheduling, resolution reconstruction and getting the footage back to them all happen behind the scenes.
Does 4K actually matter for e-commerce
Some will ask — most product videos end up playing on a phone screen anyway, so is 4K even worth it.
Compression stacks up at the platform level: one re-encode on upload, another on distribution, and a further step down if the network is weak. The more headroom the source footage carries, the more clarity survives that chain. Going in at 4K and coming out at 1080p looks noticeably different from going in at 1080p and coming out at 1080p.
The more practical case is reuse. A single 4K clip can be cropped into a 9:16 vertical cut, a 1:1 square cut and a 16:9 horizontal cut, and each one still has plenty of pixels left over. Crop a vertical version out of 1080p footage and you’re down to half the width, and upscaling that back up runs into the same cost math as before.

Built onto an existing workflow

FLUX Upscale now sits inside that system, and the 4K footage it produces can feed straight into downstream cropping, product-swap and batch-variant workflows.
The platform had previously opened up video-side capabilities for referencing a high-performing video, rebuilding its camera pacing, and swapping in a different product. The company’s own framing at the time was that e-commerce teams never just want one video — they want multiple versions of the same product story. 4K fills in the resolution foundation underneath that logic.
From a casual product snapshot to a 4K clip
Some sellers worry: if all they have is a casually shot product photo with rough production quality, can it really carry 4K.
