Google's Scam Call Detection May Be Coming to vivo

An APK teardown of Phone by Google version 234.0.9 has surfaced references to vivo, fueling speculation that Google's on-device scam call detection could expand beyond Pixel and Samsung to additional manufacturers. The feature analyzes call audio for suspicious language patterns and warns users through on-screen alerts, sound, and vibration; Google's public description states that the audio never leaves the device.

This is an unconfirmed compatibility clue — neither Google nor vivo has officially confirmed anything. A manufacturer's name turning up in APK strings could indicate testing, adaptation work, or a placeholder, and doesn't necessarily mean the feature is already available on vivo devices.

On-device claims deserve scrutiny

Scam detection touches one of the most sensitive categories of data: real-time phone calls. If on-device processing holds up, users care about more than whether the model can spot a scam — they also want to know when the model activates, whether alerts misfire on legitimate conversations, and whether any record persists after the feature is turned off. The feature previously rolled out on some Samsung Galaxy S26 models, with the initial release limited to US English users.

Whether the feature reaches vivo, and in which countries and languages, still awaits an official release note. Going forward, the settings page's supported regions, language requirements, and privacy disclosures should be checked directly — APK strings alone aren't enough to conclude a full rollout.
