Firebird opens an AI factory in Armenia

AI capacity usually clusters in the U.S., the Gulf and a few European hubs. On August 8, Firebird opened a NVIDIA DSX AI factory in Hrazdan, Armenia, and the location is the point.

Firebird and NVIDIA describe the site as the largest AI factory in the CIS region. The company says it plans to scale Armenia to more than 70,000 NVIDIA Rubin and Blackwell GPUs and 300MW of AI infrastructure capacity by the end of 2027. It also says Kazakhstan is its second market, with 125MW secured at Data Center Valley and export authorization from the U.S. Commerce Department's BIS.

Operational capacity versus promised capacity

The current verified node is an operating Hrazdan facility. The 70,000-GPU and 300MW figures are a 2027 expansion plan, while the roughly 2GW figure is a global roadmap for 2028.

NVIDIA says the factory uses its AI factory platform on Dell PowerEdge servers, with Schneider Electric power infrastructure and Vertiv cooling. Firebird and NVIDIA also cite a DSX economics claim: up to 40% more GPUs in the same footprint, aimed at producing more tokens from each megawatt.

“As AI becomes foundational infrastructure for every modern economy, countries need trusted partners who can deliver secure, scalable AI platforms fast.”

Why Armenia matters

The pitch is sovereign AI. Countries want capacity for their own languages, industries, universities and public institutions without sending every training, tuning or inference workload abroad.

That does not make the stack fully local. The GPUs still come from NVIDIA, and power, cooling, networking and export compliance remain cross-border systems. Armenia is better read as a local execution node inside a global supply chain.

The customer test

Perplexity is listed as one of the first customers, using Firebird infrastructure for its answer engine and AI agent platform. CoreWeave invested earlier this year, and NVIDIA says it intends to invest in Firebird.

The next checks are concrete: whether the 70,000 GPUs arrive on schedule, whether 300MW becomes sellable capacity, and whether more long-term AI customers join Perplexity.
